the track.

There are different kinds of skates to choose from. Most roller derby
skates are quads. These are the classic style of skate that everyone has
seen. They have four wheels. Two in front and two in back. Another popular
type of skate used during roller derby, is the inline skate. Some people
think these are much faster. Do not get a cheap pair of skates, your safety
is riding on them. Which brings us to the next most important thing.
Helmets – You only get one head and that roller
derby floor is hard stuff. Take a fall without a helmet on and you might
not be getting back up. Get a good helmet that is comfortable. You are
going to be wearing it for a while and comfort is very important. You
also want to make sure that the helmet has good airflow from the front
to the back. It gets hot out there and if your helmet does not let air
flow freely through, you will overheat.
Pads – Pads are another extremely important part
of the puzzle. Like I said before, this is a rough sport and the floor
is very hard. Wearing pads will help keep you in the game. There are elbow
pads, knee pads and wrist guards. Make sure that you get a set of each
before going out onto the floor.
Apparel – Having the right roller derby apparel
is all part of the game. You have to look the part too. You can wear whatever
you want. Some women like to dress sexy with lace and fishnet stockings,
others will go a little more conservative with knee high socks instead.
You can wear skirts, skorts and shorts. If you go the skirt route, make
sure you wear some hot pants or ruffled panties underneath.
You can also completely customize your skates with high performance wheels,
bearings and skate plates. There are even specialty tools that will help
you customize your skates. You can really turn a stock roller derby skate
into a faster high performance skate or anything that you want. Just make
